About Vincent

and his music

award-winning, curriculum- based original music for children

Vincent is a composer and performer of original music for children. All of his CDs have won national awards from the Parent's Guide to Children's Media, Parents' Choice, NAPPA, etc. His music is curriculum-based and interactive, as well as entertaining.

Vincent is a self-taught musician. He plays piano, organ, guitar, harmonica and all types of percussion. He was born in western Massachusetts, of Portuguese heritage. His father was a professional musician and his mother was a special education teacher. He has lived in England and New York City, but upstate New York is now his home, where he lives with his wife, two daughters and Emmett the cat.

Vincent has released four CDs of original music. The first, Vincent and the Big Bad Kitchen Band, is a multiple award winner: the Children's Music Web's Classic Audio for Young Children Award in 2000, a Parent's Guide Classic Audio Award and an Audio Recommendation Award from the Parents' Choice Foundation. Reviewers say Vincent and the Big Bad Kitchen Band is "fresh, lively and engaging," (Parent's Choice); "rollicking... creative... rousing...." (American Library Association's Booklist); and "a rowdy, original collection of songs guaranteed to get kids off the couch, creatively engaged and moving for hours" (Parent's Guide to Children's Entertainment). Vincent and the Big Bad Kitchen Band is great music for early childhood, kids from pre-school to second grade.

Vincent's second CD, Read to Me is also a Classic Audio Award winner from Parent's Guide. Reviewers say that Read to Me is "jaunty ... entertaining and educational" (American Library Association's Booklist); "fun, lyrical, educating ... a musical toy box of different sounds and styles" (MetroKids).

Read to Me, for children from kindergarten through third grade, highlights the most important tools of early literacy. Vincent introduces historical figures ("Ben Franklin", "Elvis is the King"), environmental topics ("The Eagle's Song"), the importance of writing ("Pen Pals") and classical children's literature ("Calico Pie", "Sailing", with words by Edward Lear and Robert Louis Stevenson, respectively).
Brand New Day is Vincent's third recording and another multiple award winner. Brand New Day is the recipient of an Outstanding Audio Award from Parent's Guide in 1968, and a Classic Audio Award in 2003. Brand New Day also won a Silver Honors award from Parents' Choice. A delight for children, parents, teachers, librarians and critics alike, Brand New Day is "musicially literate ... reminiscent of Stephen Sondheim" Minnesota Parent); "a bit of everything for your kids ... [A] truly worthy children's singer-songwriter"; and "consistently catchy musical styles ... upbeat, enthusiastic, versatile" (Publishers' Weekly). Brand New Day is for children in first through third grades.

Vincent completed his fourth recording in 2001. It is entitled Just One Step. Nominated for an Indy Award, Just One Step is again for younger children, from pre-school to second grade. With Just One Step Vincent returns to basic early childhood curriculum concepts, such as the alphabet, counting, geometric shapes, opposites and understanding patterns. Vincent also emphasizes the importance of patience, perseverance, cultural diversity and recycling. Among the featured songs are "Yo-Yo Yodel", "(You don't have to be Irish to Sing) an Irish Song", "My Grandma Turned 91" and "Firestation".

In 2005, Vincent released his fifth, and newest, CD, Working Together. This latest effort contains new classics, like "River Keep Rollin' (Peaceful Village)" and "Mama Told Me (Days of the Week)". This CD is a return to what Vincent does best: songs which enrich early childhood curriculum, encourage creative thinking and help to build learning communities. And it's all wrapped up in singable songs, with great rhythms and fun beats. Among the other songs on Working Together are "Small Town/Big City", "Seven Notes" and "Months and Seasons". There are also two instrumental piano pieces.

A regular performer at schools, museums and libraries, Vincent has offered workshops at regional Association for the Education of Young Children conferences since 1998. You might have seen him at the New York State AEYC, the Delaware Valley AEYC, the Indiana AEYC, the ChicagoMetro AEYC, the Ohio AEYC, or the national meeting of NAEYC in Atlanta or New York City. Vincent is affiliated with Young Audiences of Rochester, New York.
