Brand
New Day
Oh and it's a mystery
How words turn into poetry
So I wrote this melody
So you could sing along with me
Oh-oh, ay-ay
Oh-oh, it's brand new day
Somewhere in this galaxy
Above this ancient gravity
I feel the energy
of voices raised in harmony
Oh-oh, ay-ay
Oh-oh, it's brand new day
Girls (Boys) Can Do Anything
During recess by the swings
All the boys think
they are kings
And they think that
there are just some things
That girls can't do
But I like math
and basketball
And when I run,
I beat them all
Oh those boys are wrong
So I sing this song
about me and you
Girls can do anything
No matter what those boys say
(I know) girls can do anything
Anything at all
In the cafetorium
All the girls think boys are dumb
And they think that
they're the only ones
Worth talking to
But I know lots about ballet
and I made brownies yesterday
Oh those girls are wrong
So I sing this song
about me and you
Boys can do anything
No matter what those girls say
(I know) boys can do anything
Anything at all
We can do anything
Don't listen what they all say
We can do anything
Anything at all
Lighthouse (Shine on Me)
Shine on Me
Shine on Me
Let the light of your lighthouse
Shine on Me
I am a sailor out on the ocean
far from land as I can be
But, I am not afraid
no, I will never worry
'cause the light of your lighthouse
shines on me
Built upon a rock,
carved from a mountain
laid upon the shore,
pointing out to sea
stands a mighty light,
and I will never worry
'cause the light of your lighthouse
shines on me
Oh, the sea gets rough,
and the boat may get a-rocking
and the gale winds blow,
the waves grow tall as trees
But there's peace in my heart,
and I will never worry
'cause the light of your lighthouse
shines on me
We Are a Circle
We are a circle
A great family circle
Come 'round and
hold hands with me
Mother and father
Sister and brother
We are one great family
Someday I'll grow up
To be tall as you
And I'll have children
Maybe one or two
And we will sing the songs
I learned from you
And remember this day
We'll laugh and
we'll sing and play
I see a light on the ocean
The light of a dawning new sun
The earth circles
in constant motion
A new day's begun
A new day for everyone |
Oh! Susanna
melody by Stephen Foster, lyrics by Vincent
Susanna's only four years old
Her eyes are honey brown
And she always wants to play with me
Whenever I'm around
Playing catch and hide and seek
Are what we like to do
But it's time for me to go to school
And say good-bye to you
Oh Susanna
Now, don't you cry for me
'Cuz, I'm going off to school today
To learn my ABCs
Remember this past summer ...
We had lots of fun
Where did all the time go
Well, the days went one by one
Now we're standing
at the bus stop
And I'm full of butterflies
But I feel so much braver
With you here by my side.
Susanna, you're the best dog
That a kid could ever have
And when you wag your tail
and lick my face
You always make me laugh
So when the school bell
rings, Susanna
I'll come running home to you
There are squirrels to chase
and games to play
And lots of things to do
Martin (Luther King) had a Dream
Martin had a dream
of children holding hands
singing songs of freedom
in the Promised Land
Children, black and white
yellow, red and tan
They were singing songs of freedom
in the Promised Land
So let us lift our voices now
to Martin Luther King
And though he's not here with us
he can hear his children sing
Free at last
Free at last
Thank God Almighty
I'm free at last
Martin had a dream
of people holding hands
ringing bells of freedom
in the Promised Land
Christians and Hindus,
Buddhists, Muslims and Jews
They'll be ringing bells of freedom
when Martin's dream comes true
I Wanna Bang on the Drum
I wanna bang on the drum
I wanna bang on the drum
Everybody, everyone
Wanna bang on the drum
Gonna have some fun
I wanna bang on the drum
Bang on the drum
Stuck
in the Middle Blues
My sister's on my left side
My brother's on my right
I'm stuck here in the backseat
And all we do is fight
We're somewhere on the highway
On the way to "I-don't-care"
They push, they pull,
they scream, they yell
And even pull my hair
What can I do?
What would you do?
I've got the big sister, little brother
Stuck in the middle blues
I'm sitting on the sofa
Trying to read a book in peace
My brother turns on the TV
He's acting like a beast
You should hear my big ol' sister
When she's yacking on the phone
She yells to me "Be quiet"
I just want to be left alone
I got this brand new sweatshirt
And I really think it's cool
My baby brother messed it up
When he wore it after school
Mom says it will get better
Dad says that we'll be friends
I know I should believe 'em
But what do I do until then? |
Golden Rule Rap
My name is Jonathan
I go to school
I know the bronze and the silver
And the golden rule
No you can't lose
I've got the news
Respect yourself
You are you, and you are special
respect yourself
You've got important things to do
My name is Emily
I ain't no fool
I know the bronze and the silver
And the golden rule
You got it, Jack
And that's a fact
Take care of the earth
And all the living things upon it
Take care of the earth
It's the only one we got
My name is Stephen
I go to school
I know the bronze and the silver
And the golden rule
Well, have you heard
I got the word
You gotta treat your neighbor
The way you'd like to be treated
You gotta treat other people
The way you'd like 'em to treat you
My Mother's Wedding
Day
On my Mother's wedding day
On my Mother's wedding day
They sky was bright
And the bride wore white
On my Mother's wedding day
It was a gray and rainy Saturday
And we really couldn't
go outside to play
So Mom pulled out
a big book of photographs
And said "These are pictures
of my wedding day"
Well, there were pictures of people
in all kinds of fancy clothes
They boys wore bow ties
The girls wore lace
And Mom's hair
was done up real fancy
And she had this
big silly grin on her face
There was a picture of Dad
looking awfully skinny
He was making goo-goo eyes at Mom
And there was a picture
of people dancing like chickens
And some blonde lady
kissing Uncle Tom (Oo la)
There was Auntie O
and Auntie Jane
Cousin Sue and Bud and Mary
And (oh my gosh)
there is a picture
of Uncle Phil when he still had hair
But there was one thing
I just couldn't figure out
(well, at least not right away)
Was why I wasn't there
All the cars in the picture
looked kind of old and funny
And the eyeglasses
Grandma was wearing had wings
But my favorite picture in the book
Was of Mom and Dad
They were covered with confetti
Showing off their wedding rings
I can't remember how long
we sat there on the sofa
But for every picture
Mom had a story or two
And when she finally closed
the book to put it away
The rain had stopped
and the sky was clear and blue
Amelia
She was walking with her father
on a summer holiday
She stopped to watch some children
as they played
Then a plane flew out of nowhere
into a sky of perfect blue
and Amelia knew what she would do
Oh Amelia
Fly Amelia
They told her not to do it
and they told her not to try
But Amelia had to fly
Amelia had to fly
Why take flying lessons?
This is not for teenage girls
But Amelia would some day
fly around the world
was she scared?
Was she frightened?
It had not been done before
But Amelia wanted more
Sometimes the days are long
and black as night
You want to quit
and just give up the fight
It's always dark
before the morning light
And you've always known
you're right
Special One
When I was just a baby born
You'd hold me close
to keep me warm
And I would hear you
singing in the morning
You're my special one
And I grew bigger every day
Off to school and out to play
But every night you
tucked me in by saying
You're my special one
You held my hand
You helped me stand
You dried my eyes
You let me try
And now I'm old enough
to know
That it takes more than
time to grow
And all the love
you gave me's overflowing
You're the special one |
